It's been another exciting month! 05/23/2011
We're happy to report another groundbreaking month! For the Month of April, we have installed a 8.2kW PV system, a huge energy retrofit, and are about to install the 5.5kW WindOvation Turbine in NEW HANOVER county! We have also attended the Velux 5Oceans race and the 2011 ASES show! This year is turning out to be a record year for solar in Southeast North Carolina. There are two house bills on the plate right now...read and contact your legislative representative! H.B. 431 wishes to abolish the N.C. REPS system that mandates renewable energy usage by utility companies. It is imperative that we continue or increase our renewable energy portfolio standard (REPS). NC's REPS has created thousands of jobs and assisted the industry in its infancy. Please write or call your legislative representative to show that you DISAGREE with H.B. 431 and want to see solar and wind GROW! Note that all of the sponsors (except Thom Tillis and Skip Stam) are on the board of the Public Utilities Commission. Visit the Public Utilities page to see all members. Sponsors of H.B. 431: Rep. George Cleveland (919) 715-6706 George.Cleveland@ncleg.net Fred Steen (919) 733-5881 Fred.Steen@ncleg.net Harold Brubaker (919) 715-4946 Harold.Brubaker@ncleg.net Bill Cook (919) 733-5906 Bill.Cook@ncleg.net Mike Hager (919) 733-5749 Mike.Hager@ncleg.net Thom Tillis (919) 733-3451 Thom.Tillis@ncleg.net Paul Stam (919) 733-2962 Paul.Stam@ncleg.net H.B. 495 moves to double the N.C. REPS! This is a huge step for solar energy and may have the backing of Governor Bev. Purdue! She has not officially commented on the bill yet, but has always been a strong advocate for renewable energy and solar in particular. Voice your support of H.B. 495 by calling the above sponsors of the bill to eliminate the N.C. REPS system! Let them know that we need solar, wind, and other alternative sources and we care about our future! Thanks for all of your support! Robbie Solar Power in the RAIN! 03/30/2011
What?!? This is pretty cool. On our website, we host a live install that shows instantaneous power production and production history for one of our installs. Even during a extreme downfall, the system is still putting energy into the home! At only 250W, it's a tiny sliver of the total capacity, but it goes to show that production still occurs without the big orange. For our next blog, I'm going to research the bright moon we had a few weeks ago and see if it had enough ambient to activate the system. My first thought is probably not, but we'll see! Techies-Keep in mind that the system (in this case panels and inverters in parallel) must meet the voltage window for the inverter for at least 5 min before it becomes grid interactive. Keep an eye on the SunShot initiative as it continues to fund manufacturing and design efforts for industrial PV. | Green BlogHello, and welcome to the new Carolina Green Bldg blog!
